Tim Kaine of Virginia is pushing back against claims that the murder conviction of Karmelo Anthony was racially motivated, saying he has a "hard time understanding" arguments that the jury's decision was unfair or based on race. The remarks place Kaine at odds with some public figures and activists who have questioned the outcome of the closely watched Texas murder trial.
Anthony, 19, was recently convicted in the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas. Jurors rejected Anthony's self-defense claim and found him guilty of murder, resulting in a 35-year prison sentence. The case has generated intense national debate and widespread media coverage.
Kaine Pushes Back on Racism Allegations
